Carlos is a Partner of the Firm and Director of the Litigation Department, overseeing both Intellectual and Corporate Property matters.
Carlos is a consummate authority in Intellectual Property in El Salvador, having written one of the first Intellectual Property Treaties in the country. He has written numerous articles on Intellectual Property, which have been published by institutions such as the Central American Economic Integration System (SIECA). He is currently a professor of Intellectual Property, Arbitration and Civil Procedures, in several universities in the country.
He has 30 years of experience in Intellectual Property in which he has supported the activities of defense of intellectual property rights. He has also given seminars on Intellectual Property within the framework of CAFTA-DR: Trademarks and Copyright. He has been appointed by the Culture Committee of the Honorable Supreme Court of Justice, as a lecturer on issues of Intellectual Property and International Trade.In addition, it has participated in the Central American effort to modernize regional Intellectual Property legislation through various programs of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). From 2001 to 2002, he was part of the legal advisory team of the Ministry of Economy, in the new Trademark Law. He also participated as an Advisor to the private sector at the Intellectual Property negotiations table of CAFTA-DR and CAFTA with Mexico.
As an international consultant, he has participated in events organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic (AmCham), Chemonics International, among others.He is a member of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and has worked with the different Subcommittees of the International Trademark Association (INTA). He is a member and advisor of the Salvadoran Association of Designers and has served as a founding member and Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of AmCham – El Salvador.He was decorated in January 2011, by the Republic of Peru, with the Order of Merit for distinguished services, in the grade of COMENDADOR, in recognition of the legal defense of the ownership and Peruvian origin of the PISCO Designation of Origin.
