Alejandro Alterwain leads FERRERE’s Antitrust/Competition Law team and the Intellectual Property Law group. His professional practice also includes regulatory and company law.

He is an industrial property agent and has over fifteen years’ experience in filing, litigation (including trademark and copyright litigation and anti-piracy actions) and IP consultancy.
In antitrust he has participated in numerous claims and investigations and in notifications of economic concentration. He regularly participates as an instructor in corporate training about antitrust law and is consulted by local and multinational companies to define their product distribution strategies in Uruguay.
He has also successfully represented clients in judicial and administrative actions against market regulations with anti-competitive aspects, helping clients enter Uruguayan market.
His daily practice also includes general company consulting, particularly in the technology, telecommunications and entertainment industries.
He studied law at Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and received his degree as attorney in 2003. He earned an LL.M. at Columbia University School of Law (New York, United States) in 2006.
He is a professor of Intellectual Property Law at Universidad ORT, a guest lecturer on Antitrust, and the author of numerous national and international publications on these subjects.
